Prior to Google DeepMind, Drew spent 19 years on ecological research and environmental data science, at the University of York, Princeton, Microsoft Research. On joining Google DeepMind in 2015, Drew began a long period of fundamental AI research, the lessons from which he is now looking to apply to environmental sustainability, with a special focus on the biodiversity crisis.
